As you end 2015 and move on to 2016, I hope you take a bit of time to reflect. We talk about self-reflection in a lot of the work we do in Momenta Performance Academy. It is fair to say we often challenge the people we meet and the organisations we work with, around the subject of self-reflection and how good we are at it. Indeed many of us don't even bother! It’s easy to want to speed forward with gusto, into next year, setting a few lame resolutions as we pack up for Christmas.
However, why don't you ease your foot onto the brake for the next few weeks, and give yourself the space and freedom to reflect on the past twelve months.
I’m all about starting a New Year fresh, making a few goals, and cleaning out the cobwebs from the corners. But all that stuff is much more meaningful when you look behind you at the bends in your road.
Isn’t it amazing another year has passed? And so the earth goes round and round, with us about to orbit once more. (Or at least Tim Peake will, up there in the International Space Station!) That got me thinking, whether you’re headed home to family for Christmas or to an exciting party on New Year’s Eve (or even just headed to the living room with a bowl of popcorn), I think those few days between Christmas and New Year are a great time for reflection. A whole year has passed since the last one. You’re a year older, but are you a year wiser?
So, I thought I would make this really easy for you. Take out 30 minutes of your busy festive period and answer the following questions. Write down your answers and pick them up early in the New Year. My challenge to you is as simple as that. If you do this, you have made a start on reflection and you might just do something differently as a result.
Your reflection questions for 2015 are:
There you go, you have started reflecting! Maybe then think about what could have done differently and why? Good luck.
On behalf of Momenta Performance Academy have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous and healthy 2016. We will be back to check in with you in January.
