Why do you need Liability Insurance?

There are two principal reasons why an associate will need to maintain liability insurance:

  • Clients will require evidence that contractors supplying professional services are adequately insured; and contractors will want to make sure that their potential liability for causing bodily injury, property damage or financial loss to third parties is protected. Professional indemnity insurance covers contractors for compensation they have to pay to clients or third parties because of problems with work, including compensatory damages and claimants costs awarded against them.
  • Public liability insurance provides an indemnity against liability for causing damage of bodily injury to a third party or their property. An example would be if a contractor injured someone whilst in the course of business or damaged the property of a client.

If you are new to contracting

If you are a limited company you are required to have Pl insurance before Momenta, or our clients, will contract you. If you are working via an umbrella company, it is likely you will receive automatic professional indemnity and business liability cover as soon as you sign up but it is sensible to check this.

If you have a policy with another insurer

If you have taken out a policy with another insurance provider check your premium and cover. You can consider moving to the Momenta Associate Liability Insurance Scheme at your next annual renewal date.
